A young work colleague made a remark to me several days ago which still astounds me, making me wonder if the whole world is mad or whether it's only me. He's only in his mid-20s while i'm into my 40s but our views on the subject did coincide on a few points, jarring on others.

We were chatting idly about which famous women we'd like to wake up with -as you do- and a Kylie song came on the radio, prompting me to eulogise enthusuastically about her magical Aussie charms. I was shocked, dismayed, infuriated and baffled by his response.

She's a bit on the old side.

I thought many young men would be keen to admire an older woman, especially one looking like Kylie, but it seems that she is nothing more in his eyes than an old bag, a woman who is not only over-the-hill but has left her allures way behind her.

Bloody hell, i wish there were a lot more old bags around if that was true!

Ooh, it made my blood boil! I would have been half-expecting it if i'd been talking about any of the larger ladies that i fancy rotten, i'm used to hearing derogatory remarks from younger guys about the curvier female figure, impudent young asses that they sometimes are!

Young men often have pearls cast in front of their swinish noses, only to overlook them, having not the wit or grace to appreciate real beauty, choosing instead to rave about the frivolous, insubstantial and fleeting. I honestly can't see the attraction in these size zero, airhead Barbie dolls that they hold in such high regard.

Most likely, he was simply saying it to wind me up and for a moment, i was frothing at the mouth like some religious fantatic who's had their God mocked or called into question...i just hope and pray that if he's ever privileged enough to meet her, she'll dismiss him with nothing more than a smile and ask, nice to meet you but where's my Seany?
