We are always being told to be careful what we wish for and if we doubt the wisdom of these words we need only remember poor old King Midas, who wished for everything he touched to turn to gold, only to see his closest friends and relations become unfeeling, golden statues upon his slightest touch.

Wishing for invisibilty seemed like a good idea at the time to the nameless, faceless man, all those adventures to be had and not a soul would ever see him, nobody would ever know he was even there.

Oh, what fun, what mischief and naughtiness.

The novelty wears very thin, very fast, however, walking amongst crowds of people and not a single one of them aware of his presence. Go wherever he will on this Earth, he will forever walk alone because he is nothing to everybody, less than nothing, their eyes see straight through him regardless of his smile or the friendliness in those unseen eyes.

Even a ghost may be seen and recognised by the fortunate few but the invisible man wanders abroad knowing that he is less than he once was, he is welcomed nowhere and will never again see the warmth of affection, love or desire in another's eyes.

He exists but does not live, an observer but no longer a participent in life.

The beauty and kindness in his heart becomes like a garden in the forest that the world will never see, he is now restless and lost, seeking something that is forever denied him...until it finally dawns upon his soul that he is just a shadow of the man he should be.
