It sometimes takes the simplest things to make one happy and today i received something which was not only nice but FREE from my new best friend, Mr Quaker, the lovely man who makes porridge oats.
Through my letterbox came two free samples of Oatso Simple which have been the most welcome junk mail i've ever had in my entire life. Never look a gift horse in the mouth, i muttered as i perused the packets in my hand, which promised a quick and tasty treat...requiring only 150 seconds in the microwave and a bit of milk.
Did everyone else in the country also get their oats this week or was it a special gesture solely for my benefit? Did you enjoy yours as much as i enjoyed mine and did you devour them quite as greedily and with such unbecoming haste?
I'm not exactly a culinary genius and managed to spill some of the milk and make a bit of a mess but eventually i had a bowlful of hot, sweet-smelling oaty heaven. Very nice it was too and apparently my cholesteral level will be plummeting this very minute, which it needs to do after the delicious bacon and egg roll i had for lunch today.
Life would indeed be fine and dandy if a couple of these appetising little sachets landed on my doormat each morning, but i suspect that they wish me to go all the way to the shops and buy them for myself in future, which is hardly fair, i think.
The best compromise would be for the great porridge purveyors to charter a helicopter and drop regular food parcels into my back garden, preferably already pre-heated and ready-to-eat...i really don't think that's asking too much, do you?
