mermaid

I lonely, cold, walk the sands by night
Despairing sounds rise to meet these ears,
A mermaid huddled upon a rock
Moonlight sees her falling tears.

So sorrowful yet sweet that sobbing
The vision of beauty beguiling me,
No speech i uttered, i stood and watched
That weeping daughter of the sea.

Advance a step, hold out a hand
A tiny comfort to her from me,
She sees me now and blushes bright
Vanishes back into the sea.

That eve it haunts my every dream
So vivid still her seaswept charms,
My life complete if i could but once
Hold that mermaid in my arms.
