Awake! O Winter fairies
October's chill is here,
Flutter through the fallen leaves
Fill long, dark nights with cheer.
Bring warming wine for the wintry cup
That keeps us from the cold,
Wrap your mists around our heads
Magic stories to be told.

I think the winter fairies must be different to the summer variety, each taking their turn to hibernate through the relevant season. The summer tribe feast merrily in sunshine upon wild berries and ripening fruit while my wintry friends dine in snug little tree-stumps on hot fairy puddings and trifles. One day i dream of them inviting me along to share their magical repast.

I must not forget the other magical people either: dwarves, elves, pixies, hobgoblins, satyrs, nymphs and the rest. If you should be lucky enough to meet any such folk then please mention my name and tell them i am keen to taste fairy trifle and to rescue me from the humdrum, grown-up world, for i was born by accident into this existence, not their little kingdom, and it's time i went home.
