December is here, more than any other, truly a month of mixed feelings. Of course, we can't avoid the fact that Christmas is just around the corner; a season of joy to all men, gross commercial over-indulgence & financial worry, extreme sadness & loneliness for millions or a time to cram as much food & alcohol into your mortal body as is humanly possible, depending on your own point of view.

It's also the last month of the calender so is a time for us ot reflect on what's passed since we last saw in the new year, wondering are things any better now than they were 12 months ago?

I don't like Christmas, i never have done, not that i'm quite ready yet to be cast as Ebeneezer Scrooge, i'm not going to urinate on other people's fireworks, it's just that i'm happier when we're off & running into another new year leaving all of it behind us again until next september or october which is when the festive season seems to click into gear these days.

Who am i to moan at all the billions of pounds or dollars spent worldwide on festive rubbish such as Christmas cards, decorations or gifts that will be discarded within moments of their unwrapping? Hypocritically perhaps, i love the feasts, especially the gluttonous amounts of puddings, trifle being the King of the festive excesses, no yuletide can be complete without that feeling of having ovedone it in the tummy department or awaking on a cold, frosty morning with a blistering hangover after the night before's revelry.

Don't even get me started on Christmas novelty records that infest our wonderful charts at this time of year! Having said that, you can't beat a bit of Slade or Wizzard while you're overindulging, can you?

The Cheeky Girls were quite good too but let's keep that as a secret between ourselves! I like december because it's nice & cold, making us feel snug inside our cosy homes, there's nothing like being in a nice warm bed when it's absolutely freezing outside. Oh, for a real, open fire like we had when i was little!

December is here, love it or loathe it, we can't escape it so i'll take that thought as my cue to shut up! Merry Christmas to one & all, does saying it here to everybody save me from having to send any cards out now?
